Gail Lewis worked for a decade at the large department store chain, and her emotional farewell to her colleagues after 10 years of service touched internet users. Lewis left her job at the store in Illinois, USA, and on her last shift, she shared a final message before leaving for good.
“Attention, Walmart, this is Gail Lewis,” she said over a walkie-talkie. “10-year employee of Morris, Illinois 8-4-4, closing out, good night.” Later, in her car, Lewis expressed her feelings about leaving her job after so long: “Well, today was the end of an era for me,” Lewis said. “What you just saw was me leaving Walmart for the last time, where I’ve worked for 10 years.
Lewis went viral by sharing how she felt both sad and happy at the same time: “It’s a happy sadness because I’m going to a better job, but these people are like a family. I’ve been through a lot with them. They took care of me, and I took care of them,” she explained in her post. “It just hurts, but it’s a happy sadness because where I’m going, I’ll be better, that’s all.”
